Blankets of Hope

E-mail Print PDF

Blankets of Hope covers a team of Angels who support troops through their sewing skills. Whether you are an expert seamstress or just a casual hobbyist, you can help our team meet the needs of the troops with your talents.

The Blankets of Hope team creates unique, handmade blankets to send hope, support and gratitude to British wounded and veterans. Used on hospital beds, wheelchairs Blankets of Hope bring the message that each servicemember is loved and not forgotten.

Wounded Soldiers are quickly evacuated from the battlefield, leaving everything behind (clothing, personal equipment and their brothers in arms). During this time of pain and upheaval, the Blanket of Hope provides warmth and comfort for the wounded soldiers. Most importantly, it shows the soldier that someone cares about him and is thinking and praying for him at that very moment. It's one of the most powerful things for a wounded hero... the knowledge that someone out there cares. We are very proud to be able to introduce this project to the brave British wounded heroes.

1. Blankets with batting: suggested fabrics are cotton and flannel.

2. Fleece blankets: "single-sided" fleece should be backed with another fabric - flannel works well. Double sided fleece - please serge/bind the edges. Hand tie fleece are easy and fun to do and very popular with the troops.

3. Colors: bright colors and patriotic colors work best - most of the recipients are men.
